Wasel gets first Liebherr RTs
15 December 2017
Crane and transport specialist Wasel in Germany took delivery of the first two units in Liebherr’s new line of rough terrain cranes.
The 90 and 100 tonne capacity LRT 1090-2.1 and LRT 1100-2.1 will be used mostly in opencast mining and on major construction sites on long-term rental. Another four units are on order.
Wasel has been using a Liebherr LTL 1160 rough terrain crane and smaller models from other manufacturers in opencast mining for years. Matthias Wasel, managing director, said, “The extreme terrain in opencast mining makes rough-terrain cranes indispensable. We’re delighted by the opportunity to purchase rough terrain cranes from Liebherr again because – in comparison to other manufacturers – Liebherr provides a rapid spare parts supply along with tremendous customer service. Another reason to opt for the Liebherr rough terrain cranes was the consistently easy operation of all Liebherr- mobile cranes, allowing the crane driver to get used to the different vehicles very quickly. It’s also advantageous that our workshop can undertake the majority of the service for our exclusively Liebherr fleet.”
Both of the new Liebherr LRT cranes have an outrigger monitoring system as standard. It automatically detects the individual loadings and saves them to the crane controller. Attachment of ballast and installation of the optional double folding jib, including its angle adjustment system, are also recorded and monitored.
The VarioBase variable support is standard on the new LRT series. It allows each individual crane support to be extended to any length to fit awkward spaces. Crane work is controlled by the load moment limiter in the LICCON controller. It calculates the maximum load capacities available according to the situation. Accidents from human error are prevented during the crane assembly process and when hoisting loads, Liebherr said.
Wasel operates 135 Liebherr mobile cranes, including wheeled and crawler models. It has 435 employees. The company is also a Liebherr tower crane dealer and operates more than 400 Liebherr tower cranes.
