In the hilly vineyards near Cadiz in Andalucia, southern Spain, the international heavy transport and lifting specialist Transbiaga is using the first of its two new 250 tonne capacity Kobelco CKE2500-2 crawler cranes. Commissioned by Spanish electricity company Iberdrola, Transbiaga is helping to install 82 wind turbines, each with 2MW generators.
The turbine generator house weighs 68 tonnes, without the nosecone, while the first tower section weighs 62 tonnes. The cone, complete with its three rotor blades weighs about 42 tonnes.
Transbiaga will use these cranes for general contracting and rental across Europe and, especially, for the erection of wind turbines.
Several weeks ago Transbiaga received its second CKE2500-2 with special options and is now also working on wind farm projects in Spain. Both cranes are the first with Kobelco's new Custom Build options.
The special boom configuration includes a 61 m main boom combined with a new 27.4 m heavy fixed jib, giving a lift capacity of 42 tonnes at 14 to 15 m radius and a maximum hook height of 86.4 m. Maximum configuration is 61 m boom plus 36.6 m heavy fixed jib.
For their work near Cadiz, the cranes have been fitted with extendable and retractable tracks, giving an overall width of 4.85 m in the narrow-track setting.
