30 April 2010

ABB has won orders totalling US$40 million to supply crane automation and electrical systems for three projects in China.

It will deliver these services for 38 unmanned automatic stacking container cranes and eight ship-to-shore container cranes to Busan New Port in South Korea for owner Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co. Ltd (ZPMC). The machines will come into operation in 2011.

ABB will also supply automation and electrical systems for two ship-to-shore container cranes and four electric rubber-tired gantry container cranes for Santa Marta International Terminal Company in Colombia. They will be operable at the beginning of 2011.

Thirdly, the company will provide these systems for three 2,500 tonne/hour bulk grab ship unloader cranes for Tangshan Port Group. They will unload ore from ships and barges at Shougang Jingtang Port in China, starting at the end of 2010.

"These projects confirm the need for safe, fast and cost-effective goods handling in major shipping ports," said Veli-Matti Reinikkala, head of ABB's Process Automation division.
