Access Plus in Scotland, UK, has opened its first depot in Aberdeen with a fleet or around 50 machines. The branch will be managed by new recruit Gary Rose, an ex-Lavendon and MB Plant branch manager.

George Marriott, founder and managing director of Access Plus, said the key to opening the Aberdeen location was finding the right person to manage it.

He said the depot had so far performed above expectations. "We had a 100 day programme for the new depot, and wanted 30 machines there at the end of that. Now we are just two months in and we have 50 machines - it's accelerating every day", he told Access International.

The company, founded 10 years ago and with three locations in Scotland and a fleet of around 350 machines, still has plans to open branches in England, with new openings dependent on finding the right managers. "We're still looking for the best people", said Mr Marriott.

The company aims to invest £2 million (€2.4 million) in new machines in the 12 months from May this year. The company has traditionally been strong in smaller electric machines - and has a large fleet of Braviisol vertical mast models - but is now focusing on larger diesel booms and scissors, up to the JLG 660AJ in size.

Meanwhile, Access Plus said it was one of the only access rental companies in the UK to have been awarded IPAF's Rental+ certification at the first attempt. Mr Marriott said he and his colleagues were "elated" when they received conformation of the award.

IPAF Rental+ is an independently audited certification that demonstrates a company has met defined standards in customer service, safety, staff training, contract terms and machine inspection.
