Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics (WWL) and Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics Abnormal Load Services (WWL ALS) have transported a Liebherr R9800 mining excavator from the Liebherr factory in Colmar, France, to Durban in South Africa.
This machine was transported to global iron ore supplier Kumba Iron Ore. The excavator was disassembled into components measuring up to 11 metres long and 4 m high and weighing more than 100 tonnes. The components were transported overland to the river port in Strasbourg, France.
On arrival at the river port, the cargo was then loaded onto a river barge, ready to be sailed to the Port of Zeebrugge in Belgium. Due to strict transport regulations in South Africa, the WWL ALS team in Moerdijk, Netherlands worked closely with WWL to ensure the components arrived at the Port of Zeebrugge on time to meet the sailing schedule of WWL's roll-on roll-off vessel M/V Tortugas.
MAFI trailers were used to transfer the excavator components onto M/V Tortugas to be sailed to South Africa.
