UK crane group Ainscough has bought Newquay-based Windcon Energy Services for an undisclosed sum.

As part of the Ainscough group of companies, which includes Ainscough Crane Hire, the business will trade as Ainscough Wind Energy Services (AWES).

Commenting on the acquisition, Gareth Jones, Ainscough commercial director, said, “We have been working with a number of wind energy providers for several years, supplying cranes to assist with the installation and maintenance of wind turbines. As the demand for wind power has grown, so has our involvement in the sector. With the lifting capability of Ainscough Crane Hire behind it, AWES provides a complete package to the wind energy market where we can lift, build and service wind turbines. No other company offers a turnkey solution like it.”

Windcon Energy Services was founded by John Fabby in 2001. It started as a local provider of wind turbine erection and maintenance services before expanding into North America and mainland Europe. AWES will continue to be headquartered in Cornwall and Fabby will remain a shareholder and director. All existing employees will continue as part of AWES. “I am delighted that Windcon has a sustainable future as part of Ainscough and I am pleased to partner with a group that shares our passion for people and has strong business ethics and principles,” commented John Fabby.
