One of the landmarks at Abu Dhabi's 5.5 km long Formula One Grand Prix motor racing circuit on Yas Island will be the five-star Yas Marina Hotel, which will straddle the track.
UAE-based crane rental company Al Faris is using a 500 tonne capacity Liebherr LTM 1500-8.1 wheeled telescopic mobile crane is playing a key role in constructing the 72 tonne steel shrouds and 24 tonne shroud cladding that make up the hotel's bridge.
Work started on the Yas Marina hotel in February 2008 and main contractor Al Futtaim Carillion is confident of meeting the September 2009 completion date.
Comprising two towers clad in a ‘glazed cloak' or ‘shroud', the five-star hotel includes 499 bedrooms and suites. There will also be a Michelin-starred restaurant and other leisure facilities and an underground car park deck for 200 cars. Both hotel towers, on either side of the track, will be linked with a bridge at level 1. Executive lounge facilities are being constructed within the bridge deck.
