ALEC wins Dubai Airport contract

29 April 2009

ALEC, a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi-based Al Jaber Group, has been awarded the AED 4.3 billion (US$ 1.17 billion) contract to build Concourse 3 at Dubai International Airport, according to a statement by the Dubai Aviation City Corporation.

The Dubai Department of Civil Aviation (DDCA) initially awarded the contract to the Al Habtoor Leighton, Murray & Roberts, and Takenaka (HMRT) joint venture last December.

Earlier this month the joint venture withdrew from the project, saying it had been unable to negotiate an acceptable contract with the DDCA.

When complete the new concourse will increase passenger handling capacity at Dubai International Airport to 68 million a year, according to the DACC.
