Aluminium access

21 June 2010

A temporary aluminium roadway by access specialist TPA Portable Roadways helped a 1,200 tonne capacity Liebherr LTM 11200-9.1 telescopic mobile crane, belonging to Mammoet, to replace a cast iron footbridge over the East Coast Mainline at Newton Hall, UK.

The nearest location available for erecting a crane was an amenity space adjoining the main road which narrows to a footpath between the railway track and houses about 60 m from the eastern abutment. This required a crane capable of lifting the 20 tonne bridge at a radius of 82 m from its slewing bearing.

A total of 175 m of Traxpanel aluminium roadway was laid to the site through the residential estate and playing field to allow vehicles carrying the crane's components to access the site.
