To overcome the harsh weather and environment of the journey, spiked chains were fitted on the wheels of both truck and trailer

Specialist transport company Van der Vlist transported a bearing frame from Hamburg in Germany to a hydro-electric power station in the Arctic Circle.

The bearing frame was 4.6 metres wide and weighed 41 tonnes. Van der Vlist used a 3-axle truck and a 5-axle trailer to transport the frame from Hamburg to the power station in Norway, 150 km within the Arctic Circle.

To deal with the effects of the harsh weather, spiked chains were fitted on the wheels of both truck and trailer. In addition, a private escort was arranged, including two police vehicles when travelling through Sweden and Norway.

Challenges during the transport included navigating a mountain road once near the destination, a company spokesperson said. It took eight days to complete the journey.
