The National Demolition Association (NDA) of the USA has endowed a scholarship in the name of John Adamo Jr in memory of his contribution to both the demolition industry and the association itself.
Mr Adamo, who was treasurer of the association and CEO of the Adamo Group, passed away on December 2 after being involved in an industrial accident.
The NDA said that it hoped the scholarship would benefit future demolition professionals, and is inviting members to contribute towards a special scholarship fund. It intends to present the first memorial scholarship during its convention in March.
The association said: “The NDA and the demolition industry were deeply saddened by the passing of John Adamo Jr. As a long-time member of the NDA Awards Committee, John was committed to helping the educational dreams of our member families through scholarship grants.
“To memorialise John’s contribution to the demolition industry and dedication to the association, NDA has endowed a scholarship in his name to benefit future demolition professionals. We encourage NDA members to contribute to the John T Adamo, Jr Memorial Scholarship Fund.
“John Adamo Jr led the Adamo Group to national prominence as one of the leading demolition companies. The Adamo Group was recognised in November at the World Demolition Awards as a finalist for the prestigious Urban Demolition Award for its outstanding work to remove abandoned housing in Detroit.
“John was a thoughtful and dedicated leader in the NDA community, and as treasurer he instituted several new management and financial stewardship policies to benefit the association.”
The NDA has also announced that the application deadline for scholarships has been extended to January 29.
