Barometer moves on

15 April 2008

Asked about current business levels, a balance of 21,5% of respondents said activity was higher in February compared to the previous month. This was up +5 points from the figure of 16,5% in January, and close to the December results of a positive 22,7% balance. The balance figure was arrived at by subtracting the number of respondents who said activity was worse from the number who said it was better. This number was then expressed as a percentage of the total number of responses.

Sentiment about the industry's future outlook weakened slightly from a positive balance of 61,3% in January to 57,9% in February, but this is still an extraordinarily up-beat number.

The net effect of these two changes was that our clock arrow moved a little nearer to the vertical in February. Having said this, the arrow has been in the same 10° arc for the last three months, indicating that there has been little significant change in sentiment.

Take Part

CE would like to thank all those that took part in the January survey. It was completed by more than 300 construction professionals in 33 countries around the region.

The CE Barometer survey is open from the 1st to the 15th of each month on our website. Full information can be found at www.cebarometer.eu. The survey, which takes just one minute to complete, is open to all construction professionals working in Europe. Those that take part in the survey will be given access to each month's results on the Internet prior to their publication in CE.
