Big bus station project for Skanska

03 May 2012

A €141 million bus station project will be undertaken by Skanska in Stockholm, starting this summer.

The Swedish-based construction group has signed an agreement with the Greater Stockholm Public Transport Company to build the new bus depot, with the contract worth SEK1.25 billion (€140.9 million). Skanka said this would be included in order bookings for the second quarter of 2012.

The depot will have capacity for 120 buses, as well as adjacent workshops, bus-washing facilities, a garage and offices.

The building will have approximately 50,000m2 of space and the offices will be to a maximum of seven levels. The plan has been approved locally and work should be completed by the end of 2016. Skanska said the project would employ approximately 200 people.

It added that sustainability would be a focus during construction, with respect to material selection and technical solutions. The building will receive some of its energy supply from solar panels on the outer wall, and stonecrops will be planted on the roof. The buses parking in the depot will operate exclusively on biogas.

Skanska Sweden claims to be one of Sweden's largest construction companies, with operations in building and civil-engineering construction.
