Gritstone Production At Bardon Aggregates' Venn Quarry Near Barnstaple, UK is being boosted by a new Liebherr R974-HD Litronic face loading shovel. The quarry is one of 12 in the UK which extract high polished stone value (PSV) aggregate for road construction, placing a high demand on the quarry which operates 10 hours a day, five days a week.

Bardon trialled a number of different machines before opting for the 80 tonne Liebherr excavator which is fitted with rear-view colour CCTV, extra mirrors, FOPS cab guards, toughened glass and extra headlights to improve safety. Venn Quarry's R974-HD is used for stripping overburden, loading blasted material and breaking oversized boulder and is fitted with a 4,4 m3 capacity bottom dump bucket to give faster cycle times.
