BNSFL transports 100 tonne press bolster
15 August 2016
USA-based third party logistics company BNSFL recently handled the shipment of a press bolster weighing 220,000 pounds (99.8 tonnes) with dimensions of 27 feet (ft) x 13 ft 2 inches (in) x 5 ft 4 in.
The company’s Global Project Centre (GPC) - based in Houston, Texas - transported the unit from the factory in Windsor, Ontario in Canada on a 12 axle platform trailer to a nearby rail siding and then loaded it onto a rail car.
To clear the shipment on rail, the team at BNSFL had to turn the unit by making the width the height.
From Windsor, the rail car travelled on the CN (Canadian National) and BNSF Railways to the Texas Terminal in Houston where the bolster was trans-loaded from rail to a Goldhofer trailer and trucked another 100 miles to the final jobsite.
