Bok Seng installs turbine for desalination plant
17 March 2015
Specialized transport service provider Bok Seng Logistics transported a 310 tonne gas turbine on Scheuerle self propelled modular transporter (SPMT) from the Bok Seng Logistics Marine Base to Singapore.
The turbine was for the Tuaspring Desalination Plant in Tuas South, Singapore. The plant is used to remove salt from seawater and desalinates around 318,500 cubic metres of water a day.
To provide enough energy for the task, the plant’s operating company decided to add a Siemens gas turbine. The turbine was 11 x 5.2 x 4.8 metres and weighed 310 tonnes.
Installation was done using a combination of barge and SPMT. For the first stage of the journey, the turbine was transported by barge from the Tuas South harbour to the Bok Seng Logistics Marine Base. On arrival the turbine was loaded 28 axle lines of the Scheuerle SPMT and transported along the coast to the Tuas South industrial area.
