Briggs International president Mike Winemiller is to take over the role of chief executive officer, effective January 1, 2014, following the retirement of outgoing CEO Dave Bratton.

Mr Winemiller will be responsible for the strategic growth and profitability of the global Briggs brand. The US-based company specializes in materials handling equipment rental in its domestic market, Mexico and the UK, as well as operating a construction equipment rental business in the US.

As president, Mr Winemiller has led the organisation through a challenging economic climate to create an efficiently run rentals business. Briggs said that his ability to read the market had resulted in several acquisitions and successful integrations, which grew Briggs’ footprint and offerings to customers.

“Beyond his knowledge of the materials handling industry and the Briggs business, Mike is a walking example of our Briggs culture", said Dave Bratton, "His innovation and leadership skills have made Briggs Equipment US the largest materials handing distributor in the country.

"Mike made several contributions which enabled the company to increase revenues by 300% during the last 13 years...I have every confidence in the success of the business under Mike’s guidance.”

Mr Winemiller joined the Equipment Group at Briggs Weaver in June 1983, as part of Briggs’ management training programme.
