Briggs & Stratton acquires energy storage specialist SimpliPhi Power

SimpliPhi battery system Briggs & Stratton has acquired SimpliPhi Power, a California-based manufacturer of energy storage and management systems used in homeowner and commercial applications.

Briggs & Stratton announced today it has acquired SimpliPhi Power, an Oxnard, Calif.-based manufacturer of energy storage and management systems designed to store electricity derived from solar, grid and wind power for use by residential, commercial and industrial customers. No financial details were provided.

Through this acquisition, Briggs & Stratton said it will accelerate its growth into the energy storage system market, expanding the business to offer a comprehensive range of products that provide safe, reliable and affordable energy solutions to a broader group of customers.

SimpliPhi Power A SimpliPhi Power battery module is used to store energy for the Los Angeles Dept. of Water and Power’s Owens Lake solar array.

SimpliPhi Power designs and manufactures energy storage and management systems from 750 Wh to 2 MWh based on lithium-ion and lithium ferro phosphate battery chemistries. The company also supplies uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) as well as portable emergency power supplies.

Briggs & Stratton said it intends to offer SimpliPhi Power products through its own distribution channels in addition to continuing to service SimpliPhi Power’s existing distribution channels.

This acquisition adds to Briggs & Stratton’s existing range of Vanguard Commercial lithium-ion batteries that include 3.8, 5 and 10 kWh units.
