Four Liebherr 630 EC-H 40 Litronic tower cranes are at work on the Oosterdoks-Eiland island in Amsterdam, Netherlands, which is being redeveloped to create a modern business and recreation centre.

The immediate area includes a central railway station and a mail centre, both built at the beginning of the 20th century. The cranes have hook heights of 30 to 72 m and working radii of between 37 and 61 m. They are erected on foundation anchors as there is minimal space available on site.

Safety requirements do not allow the cranes to slew over the railway building or track. Using Liebherr's operating-range limiting system (ABB), these areas can be excluded simply and quickly, says the company, via the electronic monitoring system (EMS) onboard the cranes.

Up to seven further Liebherr tower cranes are to be used to build new hotels, the Stedelijk Museum, a conservatoire and a range of office buildings at the site.
