Cargotec restructures in Europe

09 December 2012

Finnish company Cargotec is to lay off more than 100 staff in its domestic market and potentially terminate up to 150 staff in Sweden as part of plans to drive business and improve profitability.

The company announced its intention to reduce man-years by approximately 105 in offices and production sites in Finland. This will see the firm end temporary agreements, open vacancies and other arrangements, with 33 positions to be discontinued. A further 72 staff are to be made redundant. This includes roles in global support functions, corporate functions, services business areas, EMEA region and its terminals business area. Cargotec employs approximately 1,000 people in Finland.

In Sweden, Cargotec will adjust and restructure its operations in Hudiksvall. Production of its smaller loader cranes, up to 11 tonnes and from 21 up to 28 tonnes, will move to its unit in Stargard, Poland. It is estimated up to 150 staff will be laid off from the Hudiksvall plant.

Production of a part of the loader cranes product range, as well as the production of recycling and forestry cranes, will continue in Hudiksvall. Product development, sales and after sales support, as well as service and other related support functions, will also continue in Hudiksvall.
