Carrier: why rental?

19 March 2008

Why would a US$13,5 billion heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration business like Carrier Corp want to get involved in equipment rental?

In fact, Carrier's Building Systems & Services business in the US has been renting spot coolers and other temperature control equipment in the US for ten years, and has been operating under the Carrier Rental Systems brand for several years.

Richard Jones, head of Carrier Rental System's international operations, points out that Carrier Corp “is a big service and maintenance organisation – it has always been more than a manufacturer of products. They saw the rental operation in the US develop and become a good business.”

“The Longville acquisition [which included the sizeable Nu-Temp business] made us a strong player in the US, and gives us a footprint in Europe”, he says Richard Jones, “It gives us the means to be a focused, dedicated rental organisation.”
