Casino construction

Construction work on the largest project currently underway in the Chinese city of Macau is rapidly approaching the 'topping out' phase. Main contractor Gammon is using four Liebherr 280 ECH tower cranes to carry out the building work on the US$ 2.3 billion Venetian Macao Resort.

The top slewing cranes have been used throughout construction of the 39-storey hotel and started work on site in 2005. The cranes, which have been strategically positioned to provide lifting services across the site, feature 40 to 50 m jibs with an under hook height of 44 m and are now reaching their final height of 170 m as the project approaches completion. All four cranes have a maximum capacity of 2.8 tonnes at 37.5 m and are fitted with Liebherr's 65 kW fall hoist system to give a lifting and lowering speed of 80 m/min.

Reaching the topping out stage will allow work on fitting out of the 150 m tower to get underway in preparation for the opening of the resort in mid 2007.
