Cat has introduced two new mobile shears designed for use on large excavators - the 6,870 kg (14,916 lb) S365C and 8,320 kg (18,304 lb) 385C. According to Cat, the two new shears are matched to its own excavators for optimum lift and hydraulic performance.

In scrap processing, the S365C can be boom mounted on both the 336D L and 345D L machines. For demolition, it can be stick mounted on the 365C L and 374D L. The larger S385C can be boom mounted on the 345D L and 374D L, and stick mounted on the 385C L. The 365D has a jaw opening of 84.5 cm (33.3 in) while the comparable figure for the S385C is 88 cm (34.6 in).

Both shears feature bolt-on piercing tips for thorough protection in critical wear areas, easy maintenance for optimal performance and field servicing with no welding. Design modifications have also been made to provide extended durability.

The two new shears replace the S365B and S385B respectively, and will be available in the third quarter of this year. They retain the proven features of the models they replace, such as fast cycle times, excellent cutting performance along the entire jaw length and 360-degree rotation, says Cat.
