Caterpillar introduces new Backhoe in US
06 February 2013
First details of a new backhoe loader for the US market from Caterpillar have been revealed – the 450F will be launched during the second quarter of this year.
Powered by a Tier 4 Interim/Stage IIIB-compliant, 95 kW engine, the 450F is said to have +5% more gross power than its predecessor, the 450E.
The new machine will be available with a hydraulic thumb, pin-pulled type coupler, and a range of attachments including buckets, hammers and plate compactors.
An automatic control feature reduces engine speed if hydraulic functions are idle, contributing to increased fuel efficiency and reduced noise.
Standard equipment includes a 5F/3R AutoShift transmission, with four-wheel drive and the Cat Ride Control system, which is said to smooth the machine’s ride whether on the jobsite or the highway and whether the bucket is loaded or empty.
Caterpillar’s Product Link telematics system is also available as an option.
The 450F incorporates a closed-centre, load-sensing hydraulic system with variable-flow main pump, which is now electronically controlled. Cat said this provided enhanced power management and response, resulting in more precise control of backhoe and loader functions, added productivity, and increased fuel economy.
A replaceable-cartridge hydraulic filter is said to allow environmentally friendly disposal, and the loader is self-levelling and incorporates a return-to-dig feature.
