CPA revises rescue guidance

07 May 2014

The Tower Crane Interest Group (TCIG) of the Construction Plant-hire Association (CPA) in the UK has updated its guidance on the Rescue of Personnel from Tower Cranes technical information note.

The revision of the TIN was carried out following discussions between TCIG and the UK fire and rescue services.

The new revisions suggest that the principal contractor should consult the local fire and rescue service when planning rescue from height from tower cranes, before jobs are carried out. If this option is not available, then other means of rescue need to be arranged. Contractors should seek the advice of the tower crane supplier. The Work at Height Safety Association can provide a list of manufacturers and providers of rescue equipment - visit www.wahsa.co.uk

Further updates have also been made to the technical information note, Specification and Verification of Replacement Components for Tower Cranes. The CPA states that when ordering parts for tower cranes the parts must meet the original specification of the manufacturer, appropriate, correctly configured and thoroughly checked.

The revised versions of Rescue of Personnel from Height on Tower Cranes and Specification and Verification of Replacement Components for Tower Cranes, published by the CPA, on behalf of the Tower Crane Interest Group, are available to download from the CPA website at www.cpa.uk.net free of charge.
