Crystal clear

Waterford in Ireland is perhaps most famous for its crystal glass, but thanks to a 25 km bypass being built around the county town, it will soon boast of having the country’s biggest cable-stayed bridge too.
Spanning the River Suir, the new bridge features a 108 m pylon, a 400 m span and an overall length of 465 m. Doka supplied the formwork planning and solution for the technically challenging structure that sees the legs of the A shaped pylon inclined by 150.
A total of 20 Doka SKE 50 automatic climbers and 300 m2 of Top 50 large-area formwork are in service on the site.
“In particular, being able to jump the formwork units so quickly and safely using hydraulic cylinders, and set-up and strike the formwork in such a straightforward way, really helps us to move ahead rapidly,” said Raphael Torres, contractors’ supervisor.
