Da Nang gets Doosan RTG

Doosan Vina, a manufacturer of material handling systems and infrastructure products in Vietnam, has designed, manufactured and delivered a 145 tonne rubber tyred gantry (RTG) crane for the Port of Da Nang.

The RTG weighs 145 tonnes and is 27 metres tall, 25 m long and 11 m wide. It is designed to move 40 tonne shipping containers. The handover was on 28 June 2013 by Doosan Heavy Industries Vietnam, a division of Korea's Doosan Group.

Nguyen Thu, Da Nang Port director, said, "The 100 % 'made in Vietnam' RTG will increase our productivity because the loading and unloading of cargo container ships will be much faster and enable us to hit our targets." He continued, “This additional RTG will help Da Nang port raise its container handling capacity making it more attractive as an import/export centre in Vietnam.”

Hang Ha Ryu, Doosan Vina CEO and general director, said, "As the third largest port in Vietnam this is an important day for us because as Vietnam moves forward economically the need for increased domestic cargo capacity will be certain and as a Vietnamese company with nearly 2,500 hard working Vietnamese employed in our Quang Ngai manufacturing complex we can say without hesitation that we can and will meet that demand."

The RTG joins 55 more cranes at the port.
