UK specialist logistics firm Osprey Group is using new digital asset management (DAM) software to better showcase its projects and help to boost efficiency, aid safety compliance and streamline customer and supplier relationships

The software means the company can store project imagery and documents in a DAM library provided by IT specialist Canto.

Cloud-based, it allows team members and photographers in the field to capture and store files and photography for commercial development and improved client communication, as well as compliance purposes.

The Bristol-headquartered heavy lift and transport company has a track record of working on major energy and infrastructure projects and is currently engaged on the UK’s new nuclear power station, Hinkley Point C.

DAM provides a simple workflow and can be used on desktop and mobile, making it easy for team members to upload content no matter where they are.

Helen Batt, Osprey marketing lead, said, “We’re embedded in huge infrastructure projects that make for amazing photos... we probably take about 12,000 photos a year. But we didn’t need a huge library; what we wanted was a usable showcase.”

She added that the Canto software enables Osprey to have smoother collaboration with its clients.

“It’s a nice, neat way of doing business. We not only deliver what our client has asked, but we photograph it for posterity and provide intelligent access to the project – documenting it securely through Canto.

“For tenders, for example, we can even talk to clients about storing insurance documents and evidence all in one place.”

Canto specialises in helping companies streamline the way they organise, search and share their digital content. It has a range of blue-chip clients from BP and Mitsubishi to retailers Birkenstock and Ralph Lauren.

Osprey is an independent, British company set up 25 years ago. It has a large fleet of directly-owned equipment, including 120 axle lines of self propelled modular transporter (SPMT), heavy lift cranes and a fleet of ocean-going and inland barges.
