Denka issues product warning

01 May 2008

Following the recent accident reported in our last issue in the Netherlands, Denka Lift A/S is advising customers with DL21, DL25, DL28, DL30, DL21T and DL22N platforms manufactured between 1997 and 2001 to immediately replace the seal in the fly jib hydraulic cylinder. The company told AI that it had discovered abnormal wear on the seal during ongoing investigation into the fatal accident.

The investigation in conjunction with the Dutch Safety Inspectorate is due to be concluded in the near future, but at this stage it is believed that this seal wear was not the sole cause, but may well have been a contributing factor. Two workers lost their lives in October last year when they were thrown from the basket of the Denka machine in which they were working. Apparently neither were wearing fall restraint harnesses.
