Doosan's prototype hybrid 21.5 tonne excavator was on show at Bauma China.

Doosan presented a prototype hybrid excavator at the Bauma China show – a 21.5 tonne tracked machine powered by a diesel engine with an electric motor and capable of producing 110 kW.

Ye Bin, Doosan product manager, said the machine was only sold in South Korea at the moment, but was being showcased at the Bauma China show to gauge interest in the hybrid technology.

“The price of diesel is very expensive, also in China,” Mr Bin said. “The diesel electric drive has been shown to produce fuel efficiency savings of up to 20%, depending on the application.”
