Electricity company EDF Energy will hold an event in London on June 30 for companies looking to work on the construction of nuclear power stations in the UK. EDF hopes to build four new European Pressurised Reactors (EPRs) in the UK, with the first going into service in 2017.

According to EDF the construction programme is expected to include some 150 major contracts with a total value of several billion pounds.

The ‘New Nuclear Opportunities' event will provide an insight into EDF's procurement processes and business structure. It is also expected to give outline details of some of the contract packages.

Humphrey-Cadoux Hudson, managing director of EDF Energy's Nuclear New Build programme said, "We are beginning our procurement process for new build this year and now is the time for UK companies to prepare so they can take maximum advantage of the multi-billion pound opportunities available."
