South African crane contractor Elcon Crane Hire has taken delivery of a 400 tonne capacity Liebherr LTM 1400-7.1 mobile crane.

The 7-axle model has an 84 metre luffing jib and hook heights of up to 128 m can be achieved. It can install its telescopic boom guying itself and then only requires an auxiliary crane if the fixed jib or luffing jib has to be installed, the manufacturer said.

The company's new crane will mainly be used in the port areas in Durban and Richards Bay, oil refineries and mines in the region.
