Ethiopia expands road network

The Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) has awarded China's Sinohydro Corporation a ETB 502.8 million (US$ 45.8 million) contract to upgrade and repair a 100 km-long road linking Ethiopia and southern Sudan.
The project is expected to start later this year and take 36 months to complete.
The Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA), the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) and the Ethiopian government are financing the project.
The raod will link Kurmuk on Sudan's border with the capital of the Benishangul Gumuz Regional State, Assosa, in the northwest part of Ethiopia. It is the last section of the Addis Ababa-Nekempt-Assossa-Kumruk road project.
The ERA has also awarded contracts for two other road projects; the Adura to Akobo and Adura to Burbe road links, both of which are in the Gambela Regional State, and the Sanja to Keraker road link in the North Gondar Zone of the Amhara Regional State.
Satcon Construction was awarded the first two projects, valued at ETB 823.7 million (US$ 75 million).
TIBEB will construct the ETB 546.7 million (US$ 49.8 million), 48 km-long Sanja to Keraker road.
