Europeans lead world

01 May 2008

European contractors dominate the global construction picture, with the top five in the CE-100 (see this month's News Report) also ranking in the top 10 listing of the world's 100 largest contractors, compiled by CE's sister magazine International Construction. This compares to the four Japanese contractors and just one from the US.

Europe's three largest contractors-Vinci, Bouygues and Skanska-are also the world's top three, with US-based Bechtel ranking fourth to push Hochtief down to fifth. The bottom half of the global top 10 is dominated by Japan's large contractors, with Spain's ACS the only exception, in ninth position.
