Europe’s construction output fell in October

Construction output among Europe’s member states (EU28) fell 0.8% year-on-year in October, while output from the Eurozone was down 2.4%, according to the latest data from Eurostat.

The strongest year-on-year declines for October were registered in Portugal (-15.1%), Bulgaria (-7.9%), Slovakia (-5%) and Poland (-4.3%). The highest increases were reported in Slovenia (27.3%), Hungary (10.7%), Romania (7.6%) and the UK (5.1%).

In terms of sectors, building construction output dropped 2.2% in the Eurozone and 0.7% in the EU28 year-on-year in October. Civil engineering output was down 3.4% in the Eurozone and 1.7% in the EU28.

Comparing October this year with September also showed a drop in construction output. For the EU28, output was down 0.3% month-on-month, while it fell 1.2% in the Eurozone.

The largest month-on-month declines were reported in Spain (-2.9%), Slovakia (-2.3%) and Germany (-1.7%), and the highest increases in Slovenia (7.6%), the Czech Republic (7.2%) and Romania (4%).

Building construction output fell 0.8% month-on-month in the Eurozone and 0.3% in the EU28, while civil engineering output was down 1.5% in the Euro zone, but rose 1.1% in the EU28.
