‘Excited, honoured, delighted’

Companies from across the demolition and recycling sector are looking forward to this year’s World Demolition Awards (WDA), which take place in Miami, USA on Friday October 14.

The shortlist was announced last week, with more than 30 companies contesting the 11 categories that recognise and honour the best in demolition contractors, innovative equipment manufacturers, and recycling and environmental specialists.

One company will also receive the World Demolition Award itself, which is chosen by the judges to reflect the best entry across the various categories.

Several companies have been quick to show their delight at making it to this final stage, which includes being able to display a WDA shortlisted logo on their websites and other marketing and publicity materials.

Shaun Coakley, operations manager of New Zealand-based Protranz Earthmoving, which is shortlisted in a number of categories, said: “We’re really excited to be shortlisted two years in a row and hope that our projects and innovations are enough to secure the top place.

“I’ve already passed the news on to the rest of the team and there’s a real buzz around the place today. It’s always good to get recognition for the efforts put in.”

Daniel Dupuy, commercial director of Arden Equipment in France – an entrant in the Manufacturer’s Innovation Award, Tools and Attachments section – added: “This is great news. We are delighted to have been shortlisted.”

Evan Mackey, demolition manager of Carl Bolander & Sons in the USA, which is on the shortlist for Contract of the Year over US$1 million, described his company as “very excited and honoured to hear the great news.”

And Shriram Matte, whose India-based consultancy Matte & Associates is vying for the Civils Demolition award, added: “We all thank you for our selection.”

The winners will be announced at the awards dinner on the evening of October 14. Before then, the World Demolition Summit will take place at the same venue with a high-quality international line up of speakers.

The World Demolition Summit is organised by Demolition & Recycling International magazine, in co-operation with the National Demolition Association and with the support of the European Demolition Association.

The headline sponsor is Volvo Construction Equipment.
