Ferrovial and SNC-Lavalin win Canada highway contract

Spanish contractor Ferrovial, through subsidiary Cintra Infraestructuras, in consortium with Canada's SNC-Lavalin has won a CAD$ 1 billion contract to design, build, finance and maintain the first phase of the Highway 407 East project, in Ontario, Canada.
Phase one includes the construction of 22 km of highway from Brock Road in Pickering, Ontario to Harmony Road in Oshawa, Ontario. It also includes a 10 km north-south highway connecting Highway 407 East to Highway 401.
The design and build portion of the fixed-price contract is expected to take approximately three and a half years. Once completed, the Partnership will maintain and rehabilitate the road for 30 years.
Highway 407 East will be a publicly owned and controlled a tolled highway. The Province of Ontario will set the toll rates and retain all toll revenues generated on the new highway.
