Final call for Hamburg wind safety summit

Up to 150 delegates are expected to attend the much-anticipated experts summit in Hamburg next week. The summit will focus on safety and productivity during on-shore wind farm construction. Jointly organised by ESTA – the European association for abnormal road transport and mobile cranes – and the Cranes and Lifting Equipment Product Group of FEM (the European Materials Handling Federation), the one day conference has attracted delegates and speakers from across the industry.

It is aimed at everyone trying to reduce accidents, improve safety and boost productivity during the transportation and erection of wind turbines - and those who want to hear about the latest innovations and developments.

Companies attending at the time of writing include: Siemens, GE Renewable Energy, Vestas, Senvion, Nordex, Vattenfall, EDF, Acciona, Kässbohrer, Blokcam, BMS, Mammoet, Tadano Faun, Liebherr, Terex, TII, Nooteboom, CRM, Nuon, Hermes Heavy Lift, CollettGroup, Wagenborg, Faymonville, Hovago Cranes and GHHL.

Accurate data about worldwide accidents in the sector can be hard to come by but some experts believe there are as many as two serious incidents a month.

ESTA and FEM hope that the conference will be the first step in addressing some of the issues and improving communication throughout the industry’s supply chain.

The summit is called ‘New challenges in on-shore wind farm construction – safety, productivity and the supply chain’ and will take place at the Bucerius Law School in Hamburg, Germany on the 23rd February, 2017.
