Five Gottwald MHCs for Colombia and Chile

Gottwald Port Technology GmbH in Germany has sold five of its G HMK 6407 mobile harbour cranes to ports in Chile and Colombia.

The buyers are new and existing customers and will use these Model 6 variants for handling containers, general cargo and bulk materials. Lifting capacity of the G HMK 6407 is 100 tonnes and maximum working radius is 51 m.

"Our business in Latin America has been developing very satisfactorily and this has strengthened our market position in this region," said Andreas Moeller, Gottwald deputy sales director. The latest orders for the 100 tonne model follow in the wake of orders for two more from Mexico earlier in 2008.

In Colombia, terminal operator Contecar in Cartagena added the G HMK 6407 to its existing fleet of two Gottwald mobile harbour cranes. Now five Gottwald cranes are working at the Port of Cartagena. The new Generation 5 model is handling bulk materials using a motor grab alongside Panamax vessels.

The new Colombian customer for the other new Gottwald is terminal operator Palermo Sociedad Portuaria S.A.. At the new river port of Palermo, the G HMK 6407 is used as a universal machine for handling general cargo and containers. The new Model 6 crane was handed over at the beginning of September 2008.

In Chile three new G HMK 6407s have been put into service. All are handling containers alongside vessels up to Panamax class and all were bought by existing customers.

The total number of Gottwald cranes in Colombia is nine and there are 18 in Chile.

Gottwald Port Technology GmbH, based in Düsseldorf, Germany and a subsidiary of Demag Cranes AG, manufactures harbour cranes and port automation technology. It has sold more than 1,200 mobile harbour cranes around the world to customers in 90 countries. Revenue of almost Euro 300 million (US$was generated in the 2006/2007 financial year with a workforce of about 800.
