German contractor Ed. Züblin AG has hired two Wolff 355 B luffing cranes and two 180 B cranes to assist in the construction of the 170 metre tall TaunusTurm skyscraper, under development on Neue Mainzer Strasse in Frankfurt.

In Frankfurt's central business district, the site has presented a number of challenges to the contractor, given the tight working radius afforded to the cranes due to the adjacent high-rise buildings. With a small rear tail swing radius, the Wolff machines are, therefore, suited to the task.

For the TaunusTurm project, the cranes are lifting loads of up to 14 tonnes up to a height of 170 m. To maintain stability they are anchored to the building from a height of 51 m upwards. The contractor is also using the Wolffkran HT 23 tower system.

The façade construction company Ruppert App has also rented a Wolff 180 B for its work on the construction site.

The 40 storey TaunusTurm is due for completion by mid-2014. The mixed-use development will include apartments, office space and restaurants.
