Flatiron signs US$ 700 million in contracts

US-based Flatiron enjoyed a successful end to 2011, signing more than € 550 million (US$ 700 million) worth of infrastructure contracts since August, 2011.
The transportation construction and civil engineering firm has begun work on numerous projects across the US and Canada.
A subsidiary of contractor Hochtief, Flatiron has been contracted by the California Department of Transportation to rebuild a section of Interstate 5 in Santa Fe Springs. The contract is worth € 66 million (US$ 86.6 million). Work has already started and will continue until the end of 2015. The firm received a further 13 contracts in California towards the end of 2011, worth a total of € 47 million (US$ 61.7 million).
In Utah, Flatiron signed two more contracts worth a total of € 17 million (US$ 21.5 million), while in Canada the company has been contracted to rehabilitate the Steinhauer Bridge over the Athabasca River in Fort McMurray, Alberta, in a contract worth € 39 million (US$ 50.9 million).
Flatiron is also working with the Interior to Lower Mainland Transmission Lines Project in British Columbia. The total project is worth € 542 million (US$ 709 million). However, Flatiron has not announced its portion of the total contract value, as confidentiality has been agreed. The company has won two further contracts in Canada worth a total of € 23 million (US$ 30.2 million).
The Flatiron subsidiary E.E. Cruz has also received a contract for € 83 million (US$ 108.8 million) to refurbish the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge in Queens, USA.
