MTU is using the Intermat exhibition to present its full range of engines meeting Stage IV European emissions regulations for off-highway equipment. The company said it was also confident of meeting the forthcoming Stage V regulations from 2019 onwards.

Tobias Frank, sales manager for construction and agricultural customers said, “Our OEM customers say our engines are up to 15% more fuel efficient than our competitors. That is really important for the end-user because it is the money they spend every day.”

He added, “Our engines are also very robust, and very quiet, which is important on city centre sites.”

MTU Series 1000 to 1600 engines cover a power range from 100 to 730 kW. At Intermat the company is putting an emphasis on its Series 1000 four cylinder engine and Series 1300 six cylinder in-line engine, which cover the 100 to 460 kW range.

In addition, the company is presenting a Series 1600 ten-cylinder engine at Intermat, for 560 to 730 kW applications.

Machines on display at Intermat featuring MTU engines include models by Bell Equipment, Bomag, Hidromek, Magni Telescopic Handlers and Manitou, among others.

The company also has an eye on the proposed Stage V regulations, which are expected to come into force in Europe in 2019 and 2020.

Mr Frank said, “Looking out to Stage V, we are confident we will have the technology. We will present our Stage V solution shortly and the important thing is that the footprint of the engine will stay the same.”
