Equipment manufacturer JCB is working with the Hire Association Europe (HAE) to launch a programme for the rental sector called Future Hirers.

The programme, for people aged between 18 and 30, addresses the fact that rental businesses need to retain and attract talented young people to ensure the sector thrives in the future.

This requires greater recognition of the opportunities in the industry, increased focus on skills and development for young people working in rental, and attracting new talent.

The Future Hirers programme, supported by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), is the first of its kind in the UK and will be launched on 14 July at JCB’s premises in Rocester, Staffordshire.

The launch event includes a welcome from JCB, followed by refreshments and a short presentation. Afterwards delegates can attend a personal tour of the ‘’Story of JCB’’ exhibition and shop. The event will conclude with a buffet lunch served in the hospitality suite.

Graham Arundell, managing director of HAE, said: “I am especially grateful to JCB for their support. So many of our members have raised the need to attract new entrants to the sector and retain the next generation, so Future Hirers is backing the sector with practical measures such as an online jobs board.

"This work complements the push to identify apprenticeship opportunities and related initiatives.”
