GAP Hire Solutions has acquired a former Hewden depot at Lewes, near Brighton, on the UK’s South Coast.

Hewden is now in the hands of administrators, EY, which is trying to sell what remains of the business - mainly its crane and general plant operations – having already sold the power, aerial platform and on-site divisions to A-Plant.

The Lewes depot takes the number of depots in GAP’s London and South East region to 29, with almost 300 employees. The company has more than 130 depots across the UK as a whole.

Douglas Anderson, Joint Managing Director of GAP, said; “We are delighted to be strengthening our presence in the South East. The investment is consistent with the company’s strategy of growing the business organically and through acquisition.

“The site improves our customer service capability in the region and is fully equipped with the most innovative plant and tool hire equipment in the industry. It’s fantastic we can safeguard jobs in the area, especially in the run-up to Christmas.”
