Genie used World of Concrete 2016 to show its updated GTH-844 rough terrain telehandler which is now available with a 75-hp, Tier 4 Final engine. The company will continue to offer the 99-hp version, as well.
The 74-hp GTH-844 boasts 287 foot-pounds with a high-torque Deutz turbocharged 3.7 liter engine. The company said these features combine to offer similar torque as higher horsepower engine packages while offering reduced maintenance needs and costs. There is also no regeneration or DFF needed.
"This is an evolution of our current machine," said Anders Mantere, telehandler product manager for Genie. "An engine has a big impact on a machine's overall rental return on invested capital, so we kept things simple and cost-effective with the updates to our popular GTH-844 telehandler.
"By optimizing the drivetrain, and utilizing the new high-torque, 74-hp engine, the GTH-844 is a less complex machine at a lower price point - offering full-sized performance at the right sized price."
The 99-hp version of the unit has a Tier 4 Final Deutz 3.6 liter diesel engine, or a 99-hp Tier 4 Final Perkins turbocharged diesel engine.
Other updates on the machine include standard Dana axles, which have two gear ratios that are performance-matched to each engine size, along with standard Quick-Attach systems, lift shackles at the boom tip and updated seats.
An optional rear proximity alarm on the GTH-844 telehandler can be added to the package. This alarm gives the operator an audible and visual indication of obstacles within the detection range of the sensor when the machine is reversing. Engine serviceability has been greatly improved, as well.
“We have small updates across the board,” Mantere said. “But this is the same proven machine that our customers are used to.”
It features an 8,000-pound (3,629 kg) maximum lift capacity, a 43 foot, 10 inch (13.36 m) maximum lift height and a 28 foot, 2 inch (8.59 m) maximum forward reach. Full-time 4-wheel drive and 4-wheel steering enable operators to traverse easily on hills and in rough terrain. Its proportional frame-leveling chassis with dual cylinders allows operators to pick or place loads up to 10 degrees on side slopes, and its multi-functional, proportional joy stick gives operators fast, precise load positioning capabilities.
Production for the GTH-844 will begin in mid-April and the machine will be geared toward North and South American markets.
