The Oath of Kaernan is one of the three highest roller coasters in Europe, based at Hansa Park in Northern Germany on the Baltic coast. Genie SX-180 and Genie S- 85 telescopic booms were used to help erect it ahead of its opening at the beginning of July.

Designed and built by Gerstlauer Amusement, the attraction’s main tower rises to 79 m while the lifthill peaks at 73 m. During its three and a half minute run over 1235 m, the ride reaches speeds of up 127 km/h.

To erect and bolt its complex steel framework and intricate tracks in time for the grand opening, the Gerstlauer team needed access equipment capable of working rapidly in confined spaces.

“On this type of project, the more progress we make, the more our job becomes complex,” says Franz Maier, project manager, Gerstlauer. “The elevated nature of the construction means that we have to contend with working literally among a growing forest of pillars and overhead beams. In these conditions, to stay focused on their task, our operators require boom lifts that are both extremely stable and easy to manoeuver.”

Rental specialist Rieckermann & Sohn recommended the 57 m working height, 24.2 m outreach Genie SX-180 telescopic boom provided by Schickling Rental via the System Lift access equipment cooperative. For duties on the lower portions of the framework, Rieckermann provided a Genie S-85 lift, with a working height of 28 m, a horizontal outreach of 23.32 m and 45 percent gradeability adapted to sloping ground.
