Another contract has been awarded for the UK’s Hinkley Point C nuclear power station project with Hanson UK taking on a roads construction contract.
Hanson, part of HeidelbergCement, is extended its involvement with EDF Energy’s power station project with the contract for the Kier Bam joint venture through its contracting division.
The contract includes supplying 40,000 tonnes of cement bound granular material (CBGM) and 100,000 tonnes of asphalt over the next two years. The materials will be used to build access roads on site.
Hanson Contracting has also secured contracts with Laing O’Rourke. It will be supporting new accommodation campuses which are being built to house up to 1,500 construction workers. The company will be supplying the temporary access roads for the Kier Bam joint venture and other packages for the Bylor joint venture of Bouygues Travaux Publics and Laing O’Rourke, which is responsible for the construction of the reactor buildings at the site.
Stewart Cameron, Hanson’s Hinkley Point C project lead, said, “We are supplying a number of the Tier 1 contractors with products from two of our cement plants, four quarries, three asphalt plants, a marine dredger and a Regen GGBS site.”
Balfour Beatty was recently appointed as preferred bidder for Hinkley Point C’s tunnelling and marine works package.
