Hewden acquires rental arm of Firefly

13 May 2016

UK rental company Hewden has acquired the rental arm of hybrid generator manufacturer Firefly.

Hewden said the deal was part of its commitment to providing sustainable rental solutions, and would ensure that the company had “the most comprehensive range of hybrid generators in the UK”.

It added that a range of equipment would be incorporated into its product portfolio as part of the acquisition, including generators; hybrid units; solar panels; distribution units; cables and lighting solutions.

Hewden said the new equipment would help strengthen its overall proposition, particularly within the events sector, where the company has experienced significant growth.

Hewden CEO, Adrian Murphy said, “Sustainability is no longer a nice to have, but rather a fundamental part of how businesses should run. Hewden is committed to providing the most sustainable solutions possible from the products we hire to the places we operate.

“This investment allows us to expand our portfolio of sustainable power products and ensure we deliver on our promise to be the leading on-site solutions provider in the UK.”

The acquisition of Firefly’s rental business followed more than £25 million (€32 million) worth of investment this year on products such as generators; skid steer and tracked loaders; telehandlers; non-mechanical plant and cranes.

It also follows Hewden’s acquisition of lifting and materials handling firm Interlift at the start of the year.

Mr Murphy said, “We’re going into new areas such as events, as well as specialist parts of the industrial sector.

“Over the past 12 months we’ve restructured the business to take a more sector based approach. We’ve brought in the best people in the industry and given them the products and services our customers are asking for. Nobody else in the market can quite do what we do, so we’re in a very good position right now.”
