14 October 2011

Habtoor Leighton Group (HLG) has won the QAR 1.06 billion (US$ 290 million) contract to build Phase 1 of the North Gate Mall and Office Buildings in Doha, Qatar. The client for the mixed-use project is local developer North Gate WLL.

The site of the development is on Doha's Al Shamal Road, north of the city's West Bat business district and HLG describes the scheme as a mid- to premium development. Phase 1 will comprise a total built area of 375000 m2. The complex will include underground and over-ground car parks, a three level mall and five and six-level office buildings.

Construction is due to start immediately, with completion due in March 2014.

HLG managing director and CEO Laurie Voyer said the new project illustrated the market potential in Qatar.

"We're seeing major opportunities across all our market sectors as the country continues its rapid development, and this is just one example of the type of work we are pursuing. We're targeting a number of large-scale infrastructure and building projects in the country, such as the new Doha Metro and Lusail Expressway, and we see Qatar as one of our key markets going forward," he said.
