HSS's new Corporate Social Responsibility report details efforts to reduce its environmental impact.

HSS Hire's head office and its 14 Supercentre rental locations have been certified to the ISO 14001 environmental standard. The UK company now aims to certify the rest of its 300-strong network.

HSS's head of health and safety, David Wilson, said, "We were already consistently working to most of the required standards so it's great that this has been recognised and officially confirmed by the British Standards Association.

"Receiving IS014001 status for our head office and Supercentre locations shows our clients, suppliers and industry peers that we are serious about health, safety and environmental protection. We are now planning to extend the accreditation to cover all HSS locations". HSS has more than 300 depots across the UK and Ireland.

Achieving certification includes passing a performance and life-cycle assessment, auditing the business for continual improvements, and confirmation of compliance with environmental laws and regulations.

ISO14001 is an environmental standard of the ISO (International Organization for Standardization), a network of the national standards institutes of 160 countries, with a secretariat in Switzerland.
